We can trace the Lanyons back to the 12th century at Madron.
Lanyon is a hamlet between Madron and Morvah. The original manor at Lanyon is now a ruin but following an archaeological dig in the 1960s there is evidence that the site dates back to the 11th century. The old house was taken down in 1784 and a new Lanyon farm built. The site of the old house is now an ‘historic monument’.

The Lanyons lived at Madron and the surrounding areas for centuries. The Madron parish registers record a number of Lanyon families.
The church at Madron was originally consecrated in 1336 with the bells added in the 1760s. Many of the family would have been baptised, married or buried here.
